NBA Showdown

Cavs & Warriors Rubber Match to Begin Tonight

The NBA finals return tonight (6.1) on ABC, pitting the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third straight season in a matchup only the most degenerate and self-loathing of Vegas gambling addicts dared to bet against before the season began. 82 regular season games and a playoff system that seems to go on forever has led us to this, exactly what everyone assumed would happen the day after the NBA Finals ended last year in a historic, down 3 games to 1 comeback by the Cavs, aided by a superhuman effort from Lebron James.

Pelicans' Rally Falls Short, Warriors Win 104-93

by Norris Ortolano

The New Orleans Pelicans again shot poorly in the second of their five-game West Coast road trip and the Golden State Warriors capitalized, evicting the Pels from Oracle Arena with a 104-93 loss. The star of the show was Stephen Curry. The Warriors point guard scored 28 points accompanied by 12 assists and three steals — nearly all of which was acquired in the first three periods. The Warriors entered the fourth quarter nursing a 23-point advantage.

Pelicans Come Up Shy in Loss to Warriors, 102-101

by Mark Seither & Kerem Ozkan

New Orleans fought valiantly, but there was one double-digit deficit too many for the Pelicans to overcome Tuesday night as the Golden State Warriors escaped by the narrowest of margins. A wide-open (and widely criticized) Eric Gordon three rimmed out as time expired, allowing the Warriors to snap a three-game losing streak despite Andrew Bogut’s suspension and Andre Iguodala’s lingering injury.

Hornets Flat in Loss to Warriors

The Hornets appeared complacent in their now-routine errors on Wednesday night, dropping an away game to the always-fun Golden State Warriors. The final score was 98-88, a fairly predictable result against a focused Warriors squad competing for playoff position. New Orleans fell to 26-49 with the loss, still locked in with the league’s other bottom-feeders in a race-to-the-bottom for draft position.

Hornets Lose to Warriors, 116-112

Like any good New Orleanian, your correspondent spent last night Krewe du Vieux-ing it up. While we were partying, the Hornets lost what was by all accounts a very winnable game to the Golden State Warriors, by a tally of 116-112. The Hornets dropped to 13-27 on the season.

Hornets Lose Eighth Straight to Warriors

by Kerem Ozkan

In the second game of a four-game road trip, the Hornets once again failed to turn a valiant comeback attempt into a victory. This time, it was the resurgent Golden State Warriors hanging on for a 103-96 victory, improving to 17-8 for the season. The Hornets have lost eight straight, good for a 5-19 record.
