No Strings Attached — Giant Puppet Festival Returns For 5th Year

This week, musicians and cinemaphiles won't be the only folks celebrating their art in New Orleans on the stage. The annual Giant Puppet Festival will return for its fifth year to delight and amuse patrons of all ages. This year, instead of occurring on two consecutive weekends, the fest will run continuously from Wednesday (4.19) to Sunday (4.23). 2017 brings even more action as the festivities have been extended to two fabulous venues in the Marigny. The Mudlark Theatre, owned by the fest's founder Pandora Gasteulm, will play home base to the program. Joining in on this year's fun is The Fortress of Lushington, a boutique performance space in the same neighborhood.

Close out your Jazz Fest with Trombone Shorty! All day long, enjoy a free festival with Quintron and Helen Gillet, see Los Po-Boy-Citos on Freret, and catch the last night of giant puppets! On this day in 1713, Antoine Cadillac was appointed Spanish Governor of Louisiana. Now, more to do this Sunday.

JazzFest isn't the only major event in the Crescent City this Saturday. Daiquiri defenders are headed to Magazine for today's celebration of go-cup culture, giant puppets are still in the Marigny, and more! On this date in 1970, author T.H. Williams won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography on Huey Long. Now, more to do before it gets too late. Stay with NoDef for complete after hours coverage.

The day has come, and fest goers are counting down the minutes until JazzFest kicks off in the Fairgrounds! After the fest, see giant puppets, Anders Osborne, Dumpstaphunk, Rebirth, and more. Happy Birthday to Tannon “Fish” Williams, born April 26, 1975. Now, more to do this first fest Friday!

Giant Puppet Festival Opens at Marigny Opera House, Mudlark Public Theatre

This weekend, musicians on the Fairgrounds won't be the only artists killing it on the strings. New Orleans' second annual Giant Puppet Festival opens Thursday (April 25), and they're bringing live music, macabre storylines, and marionettes to the Marigny for two weekends.
