Parade Planner: Pontchartrain, Choctaw, Freret, Sparta, Pygmalion

Temperatures are moderate and rain chances are nil for Saturday’s parades, with the forecast featuring a zero percent chance of precipitation, a high of 69 degrees with sunny skies, and a low tonight of 56 degrees. On St. Charles Ave., the Krewe of Pontchartrain kicks off the day parades at 1 p.m., followed by Choctaw, and the upstart Krewe of Freret. Krewe of Sparta begins the night parades at 6p.m., followed by Pygmalion.

Freret Fast

Freret Street has been known to inspire more than a few rough mornings. However, on Saturday October 17th, New Orleanians will wake up early and head to the Uptown hotspot for a cause greater than craft cocktails and live music. Runners will be lining up outside Bloomin’ Deals Thrift Store (4645 Freret Street) for a family friendly race to support the Junior League of New Orleans.

Teenager Wanted for Botched Daylight Mugging on Freret

Crime struck the new Freret in broad daylight this week. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) are on the hunt for a teenaged suspect (pictured) accused of attempting to mug a man in the afternoon.

Today in NOLA: 5.07.15

New Orleans is falling back into her regular routine. Today’s events feature a lineup of local favorites. On this day in 1862, Union soldiers defeated the defenders of Baton Rouge in the Civil War and claimed the Red Stick as their own. Now, more to do this Thursday.

Two Women Shot a Block Off Popular Freret Strip

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) are investigating a double shooting uptown on Tuesday (3.10) morning. The gunplay left one woman dead just a block away from the Dat Dog on the popular Freret Street entertainment district.

Fleet Feet on Freret: JLNO's 5K

By Ashley Rouen

On Saturday October 18th, many Tulane students will be nursing hangovers from Friday night’s outing to the Boot, and other uptowners will be remembering that those coktails at Cure are pretty strong. However, down the street, runners will be lining up outside Bloomin’ Deals Thrift Store (4645 Freret Street) for a family friendly race to support the Junior League of New Orleans. The 2nd Annual 5K walk/run begins at 8a.m. Participants will travel through the Freret Street corridor and Tulane’s oak lined campus, down Audubon Boulevard and head back to the JLNO’s thrift store for refreshments and food from local vendors in Bloomin’ Deals’ parking lot.

Tool Time: Gasa Gasa to Host Benefit for Uptown Repair Center

Tonight, DJs at Gasa Gasa (4920 Freret Street) will be spinning the steel wheels in the hopes of buying some metal blades—lawnmower blades, that is. The Uptown Tool Library is reopening and the uptown hotspot is hosting a fundraiser to help with the cause.

Freret's 'First Time'

Krewe of Freret Takes to St. Charles with Locally-Made Throws

The Krewe of Freret will roll this Mardi Gras season after spending a year waiting for approval from NOPD. Fittingly, this year’s theme is “There’s a First Time for Everything.”

PUSA, Y'all: Gasa Gasa Series Kicks Off with Locals Channeling 90s Trio

On Freret St. Thursday night (Jan. 9), one band is proving that everyone can be among the Presidents. Gasa Gasa is launching a new monthly concert series of tribute shows, starting with local rock band Y’all playing as 90s alt power trio, The Presidents of the United States of America.

Skillet Food Truck Slings Boudin Burgers, BLWs

New Orleans recently added another food truck to its ever-growing fleet of mobile munchies. If you’ve been hanging around Le Bon Temps Roule (4801 Magazine St.) the past couple of weekends, you have inevitably seen Skillet, the new food truck from Jason Vowell and Wylie Whitesides, shelling out late night delicacies on the curb.
