Ten years ago, Hurricane Katrina and the failure of the federal levees destroyed lives and the physical infrastructure of the City of New Orleans. With it, the indigenous connection that had existed between New Orleanians and their French cultural heritage for 297 years was -yet again- put to test. Iconic Cajun and Creole restaurants had to close, local french-singing musicians were scattered all around the nation. Uncertainty even surrounded the fate of Carnival in 2006.

Waiters & Bartenders Race on Decatur on Sunday

The pros say the trick is to never look at the tray. This Sunday (7.12), waiters and bartenders from across New Orleans will test this theory at the French Market Bartender and Waiters Race as a part of citywide Bastille Day celebrations. Waiters races are a Parisian tradition that have spread world wide. 

NOLA Est Charlie

The world continues to mourn the recent terror attacks in Paris, France. Novelle Orléans has also expressed solidarity with our municipal forebears across the pond. France’s diplomatic mission to NOLA set up a digital condolence book and the Consul General Grégor Trumel issued a statement expressing hope and gratitude.
