Crimes Against Nature Bill Passes Committee

A bill to repeal the unconstitutional portions of Louisiana’s Crimes Against Nature law passed the House’s Criminal Justice Committee this morning. HB12 by Rep. Pat Smith (D-Baton Rouge) passed 9-6, and it is headed for the House of Representatives. 

La. Legis. Tackles Crimes Against Nature

In addition to wine ice cream, common core, and abortion access, Crimes Against Nature are also on Louisiana’s 2014 legislative session. HB12, a bill to repeal pieces of the state’s existing law, goes before the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.. Advocates of the legislation say that laws currently on the books, which classify sodomy as a Crime Against Nature, are unconstitutional and have been used to target the LGBT community.

LGBT Fair Housing Bill Struck Down in La. Legis.

LGBT rights groups suffered a loss today in the Louisiana legislative session, as representatives voted “no” on the Louisiana Equal Housing Opportunity Act. The bill, authored by Rep. Jared Brossett (D), aimed to ban housing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
