Right to Vote Commemorated But Louisiana Lags Behind in 2014



August 26th, the anniversary of the enactment of the 19th Amendment, marks Women’s Equality Day. However in Louisiana, women still face major obstacles to achieving facets of equality. A look at income gaps and political representation lays out the climb ahead.


Equal Pay Act for State Workers Clears Legislature


A bill which aimed to rectify the often cited gap in pay between men and women in the state - and across the country - passed through the Louisiana legislature. For equal pay advocates, the legislation is being heralded as a step in the right direction. But the bill is limited to state employees, and includes provisions that call for months—or potentially years—for an employee to fight for their claim for equal pay in this system.
