NOPD Shifts Policy on Immigrants

On February 28th, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) initiated a new policy regarding how the department cooperates with undocumented people living within the city. The purpose of the revision is “to set forth the policy of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) to provide police services to all persons within New Orleans regardless of their immigration status.” Simply put, the Department will no longer assist with immigraiton enforcement.

State Police Extend Stay

Like many visitors to the French Quarter, the State Police came for a short visit and then decided to stay a little longer. Colonel Michael Edmonson, Superintendant of the State Police, said that the number of State Police will decline "a little" but that they will continue to maintain patrols and presence downtown. Originally, the detail was scheduled to depart on Labor Day.
