Jindal Pitches Higher Ed Funding Increase, with Workforce Training Program

After several years of inflicting cuts, Bobby Jindal is set to increase state higher education funding in next year's budget. The gov announced Tuesday that he is set to propose a $141.5 million increase in state-run colleges and universities for next fiscal year, which marks a 6.66 percent increase for 2013-14. More than a quarter of that money will go toward a program that provides money to colleges to partner with private industry, and implement workforce training programs for jobs in Louisiana's biggest economic sectors like oil & gas and manufacturing.

Loud Speaker: Boehner, Jeb Bush Weigh in on La. Vouchers

The Department of Justice’s inquiry and potential shutdown of Louisiana’s school voucher program brought in more political heat this week, but this time it went all the way up to the Speaker. Six GOP Congressional leaders, including Speaker of the House John Boehner, called out Attorney General Eric Holder and the DOJ for bringing desegregation into a legal inquiry about the state voucher program backed by Gov. Bobby Jindal, calling the claim “troubling and paradoxical.”

La. Supreme Court Vacates Ruling Against Jindal Ed Reform

Updated 5:25 p.m.

The Louisiana Supreme Court dealt Bobby Jindal's education reform a blow on funding earlier this month, but they weren't ready to do the same on teacher tenure. On Friday, the Court vacated a previous ruling by a District Court that struck down the state's 2012 rewrite of teacher tenure laws. The Supreme Court sent the case back to the District Court for further proceeding, according to the ruling.
