NOPD and Bud Light Push for Safe Drinking, DWI Enforcement

There’s a lot of drunken revelry ahead for Super Bowl and Carnival. Nola’s Finest and Bud Light want to make sure merrymakers stumble home, not into their driver’s seats. Walk, cab, or find a sober driver, just don’t get behind the wheel of your car, the pair of organizations say. The brewer and the police are partnering to promote responsible drinking, and they're calling in segways, a green team, and, as ever, super hero references.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu Addresses Son's DWI, Alcohol Enforcement

CBD -- As we learned in driver's ed, licenses are a privelege, not a right. That maxim was on display on two fronts at a Tuesday morning press conference. Mayor Mitch Landrieu addressed his son Benjamin's early morning DWI, and then announced a new initiative designed to pressed bars to follow all the restrictions associated with their liquor licences, and in turn curb violence. Of course, Da Mayor began the conference by addressing the elephant in the room.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu's Son Arrested for DWI

The 19-year-old son of Mayor Mitch Landrieu was reportedly arrested for Driving While Intoxicated early Tuesday morning. According to WWL radio, Benjamin Landrieu was involved in an accident around 2:30 a.m. WDSU is reporting that the crash occurred at Zimple and Broadway, and that Benjamin Landrieu failed a breathalizer test. He was booked around 6:30 a.m. The mayor issued a statement on the incident. Click through to view.

Probable Causeway: NOPD Detective Arrested For Drunk Driving

Early this morning, one NOPD flatfoot learned the cruel lesson that what happens on the Causeway doesn't stay on the Causeway. Ryan Aucoin, who is listed in NOPD reports as a homicide detective, was slapped with a DWI on the Causeway last night while driving an "unmarked city vehicle," according to a NOPD statement. The 33-year-old was off duty when Causeway Police pulled him over for drunk driving just after 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Aucoin was booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail, and suspended by NOPD without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Cops Drop Detective After Drunken Hit-and-Run Rampage

Police arrested a one man wrecking crew Sunday night, and it turned out he was one of their own. Charles Coulon, a 1st District detective and three-year member of the force, allegedly hit three parked cars Uptown last night while driving drunk, according to an NOPD release. While driving his personal vehcile around 10 p.m., the 34-year-old is accused of smashing cars at the 4200 and 4300 blocks of Pitt St., and the 1700 block of Pitt St. Officers pursued Coulon, and pulled him over in the 2200 block of Milan St. He was arrested on DWI and reckless driving charges, and put on emergency suspension without pay.

NOPD Unveils DWI Checkpoint Tool, Live-Blogged

With the segways, bikes, computer programs and other crimefighting tools the New Orleans police have received in recent months, they appeared to be as equipped with the tools of effective crimefighting. However, as Commissioner Gordon could tell you, no cop battling nefarious forces beyond their control is complete without a secret weapon.

NOPD Gets An Award

We always knew we had the most drunks, but the most drunk driving arrests? The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission will award the New Orleans Police Department for racking up the most DWI arrests of any state department in 2010. NOPD officer Chris Laine will be individually recognized for bagging the most people who were in the bag. All the awards were doled out at a luncheon in Baton Rogue earlier today, according to information from the NOPD. No word yet if Laine cited any officers attending the event for being over the martini limit.

'Tis the Season

Ah, the holidays. Trees and Eggnog. Friends and Family. Bracelets in your stocking. Bracelets? Yes, a special gift from the NOPD. That's right, tonight the PoPo are launching their annual DWI crackdown. [VIA] Checkpoints will be all over Downtown tonight.
