JazzFest Planner: Picks, Cubes Weather for Thurs., May 1


The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is set to take to the Fair Grounds Thursday for the second half, and clear skies are here to greet it. Today's headliners include The String Cheese Incident, Solange, Lyle Lovett and Beau Soleil. Below, some picks from the tents, cubes and a full weather report:

JazzFest continues its early-week pause, but there are plenty of worthy causes in New Orleans tonight, including a local charter school and James Booker. Plus, massive lineups involving members of Galacitc, the Nevilles and public radio abound. Here's what's happening in the New Orleans clubs tonight:


Shorty Fest Supports Music Academy


In the midst of Jazz Fest madness, New Orleans native Trombone Shorty is hosting his own star-studded celebration. Troy Andrews is headlining his second annual festival, which will also include “Big Chief” Donald Harrison Jr., the Soul Rebels, Detroit Brooks, and Dr. Lonnie Smith.

The second night of Essence Festival will be in full swing with acts like like Trey Songz and Keyisha Cole on the mainstage, but for us locals and those on a budget there will also be events of plenty to get you going all day and night. Radio drama unfolds at CAC, while the King of Nouveau Swing is at Snug Harbor.
