Tropical Outlook: Erika Disturbed, Not Depressed; Fred Forms


Erika was once a hurricane, but the downgrades continued as she stormed west. By Saturday (8.29), she was just depressed. Now the National Weather Service (NWS) says Erika is nothing more than a “disturbance.” Eyes have turned to the African coast where Tropical Storm Fred has already formed.


Tropical Update: Low and Slow in the Gulf


As the tropical storm formerly known as Chantal drifts up the East Coast, weather watchers have sensed another disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. But don't start hunkering just yet. The low-pressure area has a very low chance of developing into a tropical system, according to the National Hurricane Center.
