Today in New Orleans 12.10.13

John Waters, Prince of Puke and the Pope of Trash is giving audiences at the Civic Theatre his take on the holidays. Christmas cheer continues in Jackson Square, with a free gospel concert from the Melody Clouds. On this day in 1860, then Governor Moore called a special session, calling for Louisiana to secede from the Union. Now, more to do this Tuesday.

Today in New Orleans: 9.05.12

Today, network with over 50 New Orleans based cultural organizations at Culture Collision, take in some 80s fuzz pop or some aughts folk-punk and see a new program that's working for the kids in Central City. On this day in Louisiana history, the late trumpet player Jean Baptiste was born (1934) and Jean Lafitte’s brother Pierre and a group of other pirates escaped from the Cabildo, and remained free thank to his brother Jean's negotiations (1814) and Gov. Uncle Earl Long passed (1960).
