Commencement Schedules for NOLA's Universities

For some portions of the City, this time of year is not Fest Season, but Commencement Season. Caps and gowns have already taken flight at Dillard and SUNO, but Tulane, Loyola, UNO, and Xavier will all be distributing sheepskins in the days ahead. With dozens of events, it’s easy to be confused. NoDef has the full schedules for the local schools below.

Bey to Bring her Honey to NOLA

Last year, Beyonce spent a lot of time in Louisiana during shoots for her “Formation” and “Lemonade” videos, but the Crescent City did not make the cut for a tour to support the new projects. On Thursday (5.05), the Queen Bey remedied that omission, adding a NOLA stop to the Formation World Tour.

ChazFest Cancellation Cancelled!

After public outcry, it looks like ChazFest 10 will be happening after all. On Friday (2.26), Alex McMurray declared that despite an earlier cancellation, organizers are now moving forward with the popular neighborhood music mini-festival on account.

Christmas Tree Recycling To Aid Wetlands

An early Mardi Gras means that your Christmas tree might survive as a fat Tuesday tree. If you are ready to get the needles out of your house, Mayor Mitch wants you to remember that the old trees can also assist with the vital cause of wetland restoration.

Stars More: Wilco Adds NOLA Date

Wilco’s surprise album “Star Wars” put the indie darlings back in the national spotlight last week. On Monday (7.20), Jeff tweedy and company announced that the band will be returning to the Crescent City in the fall. Amidst a slew of added tour dates is the Orpheum Theater on September 28.

Shows to Go: Pumpkins, Manson, Haynes Announce Dates

Living in New Orleans, it’s easy to forget that bold faced names in live music perform outside of festivals. Still, we do have shows that do not require bringing your own chair. Warren Haynes, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Marilyn Manson are just a few of the artists who announced NOLA dates today.

Spellbound: Quintron & Miss P Announce Tour, New Projects

Quintron and Miss Pussycat are downtown idols, but they are certainly not idle. The duo just announced a series of spring tour dates as well as the now expected eccentric mix of new projects.

Trees Please

Some New Orleanians are beginning to convert their Douglas Firs into Mardi Gras Trees. However, most locals are wondering what to do with the shedding Christmas trees in their living rooms. Today, Mayor Mitch and the City reminded citizens that tree recycling programs will be available this week. The discarded cheer will be repurposed to protect the coast and the wetlands.
