However, that figure is not enough to prevent a reported 15 to 20 million dollar budget deficit at the Uptown university. Today, Tulane Prez Michael Fitts sent an email to staff announce cost cutting measures including staff buyouts.

More Layoffs at Da Paper

The third wave of layoffs at Da’ Paper arrived on Thursday (9.17). In an article posted online, the NOLA Media Group (formerly known as the Times-Picayune) announced that “28 full-time and 9 part-time content staffers – or 21 percent of the overall content operation's full-time employees” will lose their jobs.

Legislature OK's Another $36.4 Mil in Cuts

The old saying goes, “The first cut is the deepest.” Yet, in the case of Louisiana’s budget, it seems that the cuts just keep coming. On Friday (2.20), the legislature’s Joint Budget Committee approved their $36.4 million portion of the $60.7 million budget cut proposed by Bobby Jindal’s office.

UNO President Greenlights Cuts

The University of New Orleans (UNO) is moving forward with plans to solve the institution’s budget crisis through a series cuts, mergers, and reassignments. Today, UNO President Dr. Peter J. Fos issued a final report and formally sought Board approval for the changes. Seven degree programs and one department would be eliminated. Additionally, adjuncts professors, instructors, and library staff would be reduced.

UNO Committee Releases Recommends on Cuts & Restructuring

The University of New Orleans (UNO) released recommendations for restructuring academics to fight the school’s budget crunch on Tuesday (11.11) morning. The report included a proposal to cut three programs: B.S. Early Childhood Education, B.S. Elementary Education & Mild Mod Disabilities, and Ph.D. Political Science. Additionally, the document called for enhancement and restructuring of several other fields.

T-P to Shutter Orleans Parish Printing Plant, Cut 100 Jobs

The Times-Picayune has not garnered much popularity with their recent restructuring. The publication’s switch to digital elicited public outrage. The trend does not seem to be improving for ‘da Paper. On Tuesday, the T-P announced that they will be closing their Howard Avenue printing facility operated by ACS Louisiana, and cutting 100 production jobs.

Saints release Final 53 Man Roster

Practice time for the Black n' Gold is officially over. After a sloppy preseason Game Four on Thursday night, the Saints released their final 53 man roster today. The biggest names to miss the cut were off-season pickup Champ Bailey and 2009 hero Bobby Meachem.

Saints: Cut Day

The Saints have one more preseason matchup on Thursday. Then the games will start to count. The Black and Gold are done with the ice buckets and rookie hazing. Time for business. One piece of camp lingers. Today, NFL teams must cut their squad down to 75 players, and the Saints are almost there.

Stray Strut Shunned

This Christmas, stray animals will not be warming themselves by the SCPA's fireplace. The NPO has announced that they will stop taking strays today. (The SCPA has been doing so for 60 years in Louisiana.) The shifts is a product of city budget cuts which have ended the SCPA's contract for Emergency Animal Services in New Orleans.
