Stray Strut Shunned


This Christmas, stray animals will not be warming themselves by the SCPA's fireplace. The NPO has announced that they will stop taking strays today. (The SCPA has been doing so for 60 years in Louisiana.) The shifts is a product of city budget cuts which have ended the SCPA's contract for Emergency Animal Services in New Orleans. No Replacement has been found. [VIA]

     The doomsayer pundits and politicos in Louisiana are warning us that we are headed for the great economic abyss in our beloved pelican state, since the upcoming state budget will have to be slashed by $1.6 Billion (yep boys and girls, that’s B for Billion!) for the upcoming fiscal year.


Say Whaaaa!?!?!?


Once again reality proves stranger then fiction in Louisiana. This past week has been full of quotables, such as Dr. Larry Hollier when he described a grim meeting in Baton Rouge, where State University administrators proposed education cutbacks due to the expiration of Federal stimulus funds as ³wonderful for motivation and team building². Based on uncertainties on the exact budget for the next fiscal year, we are looking at a decrease of 20% to 30%  in State Funding at the University level. The encouragement ensues with LSU System Chancellor John Lombardi, "This is gruesome, this is painful- this is extraordinarily serious²
