Eyes on the RoadBroadmoor Improvement Association Set to Unveil Crime Cameras through ProjectNOLALeaders in the Broadmoor community will unveil their latest crime-fighting initiative tonight, a surveillance program through ProjectNOLA. CBD, Esplanade Ave. Robbery Suspects on the Loose (VIDEO)A pair of early week armed robberies on opposite edges of the French Quarter have NOPD searching for suspects. In one incident, a man was forced to empty his pockets on Esplanade. In another that was caught on video, a man was robbed while sitting in his car in the CBD. NOPD Makes Arrests in Camp St. Attack, New Orleans East MurderNew Orleans Police made two arrests Thursday in connection with separate New Orleans East shootings that occurred in the city within the last year. Officers made arrests in a March, 2012, homicide. NOPD also busted the alleged criminal who is accused of shooting an Uptown man in the chest, invading his home and stealing his car. Person of Interest Sought in Bourbon St. ShootingAfter releasing video of Saturday night's quadruple Carnival shooting on Bourbon St., police are looking for an unidentified man that may have important information about the case. NOPD released a picture of the Person of Interest (pictured) on Sunday. Uptown Burglary Blitz Reported by Tulane StudentsUpdated 8:50 p.m. A recent wave of burglaries in Uptown New Orleans has Tulane police turning to NOPD to increase patrols in the neighborhoods where students live off-campus. According to Tulane police logs, four off-campus burglaries, a car theft and a bike theft were reported between Sunday and Tuesday. The crimes were clustered around the 800-1000 blocks of Lowerline St. and Cherokee St. Funeral Bells Toll for Man's Church Break-InThe holiest of alarm bells ended one Louisiana man's sanctuary sojourn over the weekend. About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the priest at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Labadieville called 911, reporting that the church bells were "going crazy," according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's office. Cop Popped by Man in CuffsA man who New Orleans police said was in handcuffs grabbed a police officer's gun, and shot him in the leg Sunday morning in New Orleans East. Damon Jones, 41, was eventually hauled in after the incident, with what would have been a disturbing the peace charge upped to aggravated battery on a police officer. The police officer, who was not named, was reportedly in stable condition. Suspect Named in Brazen Mid-City Beating-RobberyHelp from witnesses lead New Orleans police to identify the man who allegedly fought a Mid-City convenience store owner, and took the shop's money over the weekend. Anthony Fields, 26, allegedly walked into the store on the 3000 block of Bienville St. at about 9:15 a.m. on December 29, and left with $500 in cash. Christmas Cutting on CanalA Christmas Day argument turned violent in the French Quarter, according to NOPD. About 5 a.m. on Canal St., two men got into an altercation. At some point during the fight, one of the men stabbed the other man in the hand. No arrests were reported in the incident. MidCity Mayhem: Aggravated Cutting on Yule EveHoliday cheer turned bloody on Christmas Eve in MidCity. At 1:18 AM, New Orleans Police responded to an Aggravated Battery by Cutting on the normally placid 2800 block of Bell Street. What began as a derigeur holiday argument between two individuals became violent, when one party unsatisfied with rhetoric alone, grabbed a knife. |
