National Chartreuse Day Celebrated

Today is National Chartreuse Day! While the liquer is not a staple in the United States, it enjoys vast popularity in NOLA. Before NoDef’s staff departed to drown themselves in the green sea, we chatted with the guys from CureCo to learn a little about the libation and snag a few recipes.

Master of the Margarita (Recipes)

Today (2.22) is National Margarita Day! If you are in the minority that needs an excuse to savor the tasty lime and agave cocktail, here is your rationale. NoDef reached out to Braden LaGrone of Cure (4905 Freret Street) for some pointers.

The Professor and the Madmen

Jerry Thomas is virtually a sacred name to craft cocktail enthusiasts. The pioneering bar-tender and author set the foundation for cocktails as we know them. So, it’s only appropriate that drinking destination Bar Tonique (820 N. Rampart St.) will be honoring the patron saint’s December 15th birthday with a party.

Drinking Culture

Celebrating A Year of Drinking (and Writing) at Cane & Table

Gentle reader, I have no more to write but a little – our time is at an end. O long year’s labor! And short year’s memory… drowned as rainwater in the ocean. But I will resist nostalgia as I might. For a celebration of 52 weeks of penning the "Drinking Culture" column is at hand. And sending out a call to those who would come, I determined to achieve the acme of my credit limit and begin anew the cycle of paying off my debts throughout the approaching busy season. Come with me now, back to a beginning of sorts. We’re off to see some old friends, meet some new, and drink and dine and generally blow-it-up at the finest all-around joint in the French Quarter: Cane and Table.

Treo Brings Cocktails, Grub & Gallery to Tulane Avenue

Still in the soft opening phase, the latest venture from the owners of Finn McCool’s is bringing craft cocktails to Tulane Avenue. Treo (3835 Tulane Avenue) opened the bar, restaurant and art gallery quietly on January 26. Owners Steve and Pauline Patterson are still preparing the kitchen for their grand opening, slated for Friday, February 7.

'Mixologist' Parodies Craft Cocktail Scene (VIDEO)

Just in time for next week's Tales of the Cocktail, the white guy rappers from the other LA that brought you that Whole Foods parody of Mr. Ghetto's Wal-Mart chime in with a send-up of the fancy drinking scene. With references to cocktails from "pre-Civil War New Orleans," the Ramos Gin Fizz, and huge ice cubes that seem like they would do the trick on an afternoon when the Heat Index is hovering around 110, New Orleanians can find plenty to relate to in "Mixologist." On the other hand, the coasts can have their laughs during the part about $20 cocktails. Certain things are too frightening to be funny. Click through to view:
