Spook Shops

Where to Find a Costume in a Clutch

Halloween is only a couple of days away. Many locals plugged in their glue gun in July and haven't stopped since. However, for the rest of us, NoDef offers our annual list of costume shops. Below are some last minute options for both those looking for something prete-a-porter and the brave souls planning to pull an all night costume build.

Beaucoup BUKU

Pics and Highlights from the Fest

Why do you Buku? The festival gets most of it's appeal from bringing that bass to New Orleans, but it has some other things to offer as well. Yesterday, people traveled to catch a melange of performances ranging from hip-hop, to instrumental electronic, to heavy dub beats including A$AP Rocky, STS9, Empire of the Sun, RL Grime, Boosie Badazz, Run the Jewels and Die Antwoord. Today, Bassnectar headlines at the Power Plant stage.

Bizarre Bazaar

Carnival is in full swing which means that the countdown for costumes is on.  But for those who want to get a jumpstart, Cree McCree and the Threadhead Cultural Foundation, a non-profit organization, are hosting their 24rd Annual NOLA Designer Costume Bazaar today at the New Orleans Healing Center.

By Ashley Rouen

As theFoo Fighters took center stage during the final hours of Voodoo Fest Sunday (10.02), a different kind of voodoo ritual continued downtown. New Orleans residents once again celebrated All Soul’s Day with an annual “underground” walking parade in the Bywater. The face painted krewe stomped to the End of the World located at the edge of the canal on the levee.

Confessions of a Costume-aholic

By Amanda Thompson

Hello everybody. My name is Amanda, and I'm a costume-aholic. Sound familiar? Do not fear! I am not here to push for abstinence from dressing up. To the contrary, New Orleans encourages us all to costume or mask (the only place you'll hear that word used as a verb!) at the drop of a hat or handkerchief.
