FBI Ups Reward for Man Who Shot NOPD Officer to $30,000

The FBI is offering an additional $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who shot NOPD Officer John Passaro. This afternoon, Special Agent Michael J. Anderson, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas, Crimestoppers’ Darlene Cusanza, and Mayor Landrieu held a press conference to announce the upped reward and give additional details on the crime.

Cop Popped by Man in Cuffs

A man who New Orleans police said was in handcuffs grabbed a police officer's gun, and shot him in the leg Sunday morning in New Orleans East. Damon Jones, 41, was eventually hauled in after the incident, with what would have been a disturbing the peace charge upped to aggravated battery on a police officer. The police officer, who was not named, was reportedly in stable condition.

In the wake of yesterday’s early morning Mid-City traffic stop gone terribly wrong – where one suspect was killed by police, two officers were shot multiple times, and another suspect was shot in the leg – police released more details today about the incident. At an afternoon press conference, NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas said Officer Jason Giroir pulled over brothers Earl Sipp and Justin Sipp at around 5:30am yesterday in Mid-City for a broken light over the license plate, and possibly other moving traffic violations, including running a stop sign.
