Offerman's Dunces Broadway Bound?


Yesterday, The Daily News received lots of attention for the paper’s Trump/Palin slamming “I’m With Stupid” wood. However, the paper also ran a story of greater interest to New Orleanians. The News reported that A Confederacy of Dunces may be heading to Broadway soon.

As Americans read fewer and fewer books and feel generally more isolated in the technological age, there has emerged a response among lovers of literature that seems to address both issues—mass public book readings that engage attendees both literarily and socially.


Petition Seeks 'Dunces' as State Book, Not Bible


MoveOn.org planted their placard in Louisiana with a billboard that drew a lawsuit from the lieutenant gov. Now, at least one of the left-leaning netroots org's many advocates is spinning Fortuna's wheel when it comes to our books, too. A petition recently posted to the site calls for John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces to be the official book of Louisiana.


Thieves Getting Smarter? Rare Books Stolen From Maple Street Book Shop


Uptown robbers might have had a hankering for some classic New Orleans literature over the weekend, but they wreaked havoc at an Uptown bookseller in the process. Thieves stole rare books and cleaned out the cash register at Maple St. Book Shop during a break-in yesterday while the store was closed, store manager Gladin Scott said Monday afternoon.
