Commencement Schedules for NOLA's Universities

For some portions of the City, this time of year is not Fest Season, but Commencement Season. Caps and gowns have already taken flight at Dillard and SUNO, but Tulane, Loyola, UNO, and Xavier will all be distributing sheepskins in the days ahead. With dozens of events, it’s easy to be confused. NoDef has the full schedules for the local schools below.

From Norman Robinson to Bob Breck, New Orleanians hold their television news personalities in high regard. That love propelled WWL’s Hoda Kotb to even higher levels; she built a national career on NBC’s “Today” show after leaving NOLA. This spring she is slated to return and speak to Tulane’s graduates.

Today in NOLA: 5.14.15

Even if you don’t have a paramour, you can find Paramore at the Saenger. It’s graduation day for LSUHC. One Eyed Jack’s is going back in time. Local filmmakers have their night and the rest of us can check out some free music in Armstrong Park. On this day in 1845, Louisiana’s first free public school opened. Now, more Thursday happenings.

Deep Note: Woodward to Speak at Loyola Commencement

Loyola’s commencement is getting a little bigger. Maybe, the hungry local university is just following the money. Legendary journalist Bob Woodward will deliver the address at the May 9 ceremony already packed with notable names.

Denzel Washington to Deliver DU Commencement

In 2012, Denzel Washington raised the heart rate of many New Orleanians when he posed for photos in the R-Bar. Aside form voguing in NOLA, Denzel has been an active supporter of Dillard University, specifically the theatre program at the historic school. On May 9, Washington will elevate that support by delivering the commencement address.
