NBA Showdown

Cavs & Warriors Rubber Match to Begin Tonight

The NBA finals return tonight (6.1) on ABC, pitting the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third straight season in a matchup only the most degenerate and self-loathing of Vegas gambling addicts dared to bet against before the season began. 82 regular season games and a playoff system that seems to go on forever has led us to this, exactly what everyone assumed would happen the day after the NBA Finals ended last year in a historic, down 3 games to 1 comeback by the Cavs, aided by a superhuman effort from Lebron James.

Pelicans Coast by Cavs, 100-89

by Will Winston

With the final selection of all-stars being made later this week, Anthony Davis has been giving coaches one last reminder that he deserves his first nomination. After nearly posting a triple-double on Sunday against the Magic (22 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks), Davis came close to another one Tuesday night in Cleveland — posting 30 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks. The 30 points were two shy from his career-high and helped the Pelicans to a 100-89 win over the Cavaliers.

Late-Game Rally Puts Pelicans Back at .500

by Christopher Romaguera

These are the kinds of games you like to see a young team win. On night when the Cleveland Cavaliers were shooting well (53.8 percent from the field) and the New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t buy a shot (40.8 percent), the home team nonetheless overcame a late 12-point deficit on their way to a 104-100 win. With the victory, New Orleans gets back to .500, improving to 6-6, and 5-2 at the Arena.
