Former Cash Money Millionaire B.G. Gets 14 Years in PrisonA judge shipped one of the original Hot Boys to the Big House today. B.G. was sentenced to 14 years in prison today by U.S. District Judge Helen Berrigan, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office. The 28-year-old, who along with Juvenile, Lil Wayne and Turk formed the early Cash Money Records supergroup Hot Boys, pled guilty to gun possession and obstruction of justice charges last year. Mystikal to Serve 3 More Months in JailAfter JazzFest, Mystikal is heading back to jail. The much-loved New Orleans rapper, who just released a new single, was ordered back to prison for 90 days starting May 14 because he violated probation. According to The Advocate, the recent Cash Money Records signee, who was released in 2010 after serving six years for committing extorting and sexual battery against his hair dresser, was arrested in February on a domestic abuse battery charge in Ascension Parish. Mystikal Leaves No Limit Past Behind, Signs with Cash Money RecordsBack in the golden '90s, the thought of No Limit star Mystikal signing with Cash Money Records would've seemed either an act of pure treason, or a sign that the man born Michael Tyler went down to the crossroads to make a deal with the devil himself. After all, Hot Boy B.G. recorded diss tracks aimed at Mystikal like "Fuck Big Boy", and the dreaded don responded. But New Orleans hip-hop is a bit different these days. The big stars only visit during Thanksgiving, and anyone can work with Mannie Fresh. Thus did Mystikal sign with Cash Money today, and Birdman decreed the Big Tent period of NOLA rap fully underway. A Weezy Thanksgiving: Lil Wayne Hands Out Turkeys in New OrleansIs Lil Wayne finally ready to talk turkey about his place in New Orleans? The Crescent City has a mostly off-again relationship with one of its most famous native sons. He was born here, but calls Miami his home. He handed New York City his juiciest headline, and, worst of all, rooted against the Saints in the most important football game of all time - up to that point. But, on Friday, he not only returned to N.O., but assumed the rare posture of a gangster who gives back. Mr. Carter returned to NOLA to hand out Thanksgiving birds in the hood. Jet Life JivesNOLA Producer-Emcee Nesby Phips on Touring with Curren$y, Coming Up Around Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records and the Blue Collar Side of Hip-HopWhen Curren$y’s Jet Life tour touched down at a sold-out Bourbon Street-themed club in Baltimore last month, there was plenty familiar besides the fledgling few Mardi Gras beads on the wall. Birds of a FeatherLike all good gangsters before him, actual Cash Money millionaire Birdman descended from the high life in Miami yesterday to hand out turkeys in Central City. The moment of good will seemed to be a perfectly calculated act of benevolence, until people started talkin' about the kids. Birdman was apparently happy to blithely encourage kids to stay off drugs and stop the violence. But, when it comes to being a permanent posi influence: "We can't be no role models, we are only doing music." Bards of HollygroveIn news sure to surprise anyone who's ever heard the range of elocution in one of their songs, Cash Money Records is set to open a publishing arm. Label founders Birdman and Slim inked a deal with a Simon & Schuster subsidiary, adding to an increasingly diversified portfolio that also includes an oil company. The imprint will initially offer such titles as "Raw Law: An Urban Guide to Criminal Justice," the novel "Justify My Thug," and the late, irate Iceberg Slim's memoir, "Pimp." If only Weezy had a little more time in prison. He could've signed up for National Novel Writing Month. |
