Midsummer Mardi Gras 2012 in Photos

While most of the MSM was distracted with that whole storm thing, an aquatic splinter group whose initials stand for Midsummer Mardi Gras motorboated through Carrollton last night, complete with plenty of fantasical creatures that usually swim, an array of vessels and plenty of floaties. NoDef's Chase Lowenstein was there to snap some pictures. Click through to view:

Crescent City Crime Bits

New Orleans Police Blotter: July 18-2

On this week's registry of ruthlessness, thieves went wholesale on a construction site, kitchen and family gathering, and retail at Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts and a clothing store. Crescent City Crime Bits brings news from the police beat, all in one place.

Costco is Coming to New Orleans, and It's Bringing Free Samples With It!

Costco is moving to New Orleans. That's right, Consumer Reports' top-rated retail chain is moving into the City. When the giant "club" retailer opens next year. we won't even have to go to the burbs to go to a place where we can do some serious stocking up. That three month supply of toilet paper, that urn to put your ashes in. It'll all be under one 148,000 sq. ft. roof over near where the I-10 spits you off onto Carrollton Ave. Sure, they might be a giant corporation, but this warehouse chain possesses one alluring feature that succeeds in making everybody's ears perk up: FREE SAMPLES!

2 Sunday Uptown Stickups Happened 2 Minutes Apart

A dark-colored pickup truck and a blue steel automatic handgun were at the center of descriptions of two armed robberies that happened within moments of each other Sunday morning in Carrollton. The first incident, which happened around 10:45 a.m., a man was walking in the 8100 block of Willow St. He was approached by a pickup truck when two unknown black males, one of which was armed with a blue steel semiautomatic handgun, got out of the vehicle and robbed him. A second robbery happened down the street two minutes later.

Dublin St. Derelict Detained

Thanks to a Crimestoppers tip, police were able to unload the fistful of warrants they were holding on Trebor Blanton Wednesday. The 22-year-old was wanted for four Uptown robberies that he is allegedly committed over a four-week period. After receiving an anonymous tip, NOPD arrested Blanton in the 14,000 block of Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East. Blanton is accused in robbery incidents on Aug. 25, 29, Sept. 2 and 12.

Uptown Sees Weekend Robbery Spree

Over the weekend, eight robbery incidents were reported Uptown, mostly in the Carrollton neighborhood, New Orleans police said today. NOPD said the spate was "very unusual" for the area. All of the assailants were described as black males, roughly 20-25 years old, between 5'7" and 6 ft. in height. In most of the cases, which appear virtually identical on paper, the robberies occurred after victims parked their car. In one particularly audacious Saturday morning incident in the 5500 block of Perrier, the victim was seated in her car when approached. Click through to read all the blocks on which the incidents occurred.
