Mailbag: Keep Royal's Pedestrian Mall Open

Earlier in December, Brennan’s restaurant spearheaded a push to close the pedestrian mall on Royal Street. Reader Chris Olsen, a small business owner working out of the Quarter, was appalled by the idea. He launched a petition and penned an open letter to Council-Member Nadine Ramsey.

Royal St. Pedestrian Mall to Reopen

Doreen and her band will be playing in front of Rouse’s once again. Following the Paris terror attacks, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) temporarily opened Royal Street to vehicular traffic, but the Department plans to return the road to its normal pedestrian use from 11a.m. to 4p.m. daily beginning on Saturday (12.05).

Tappin' Out

Typically, there's enough weird crime in New Orleans that the petty stuff doesn't really make it off the tickler. But anytime you expose the organizational hierarchy of tapdancing buskers in the French Quarter, you deserve a mention. So, here's to you, ABC-26, for letting a little light shine on how things really work among the happy kids with fancy feet. Says one insider: "Generally, the younger ones that aren't even supposed to be out here are the ones causing the problems. They sneak out of their houses or whatever they do."
