Top Five Louisiana Labor Day Songs

Louisiana may be a right-to-work state, but natives of the Boot contributed to the working man’s cause in the way that we often do—through music. Toussaint, Lead Belly, and even Tim McGraw laid down tracks about labor. Check out NoDef’s top five Louisiana Labor Day tunes.

Today's Events: 7.15.11

July 15, when the Rosetta Stone was discovered in Rosetta Village, Egypt (1799), when Ralph waldo Emerson delivered the Divinity School Address at Harvard Divinity School (1838), when Continental Airlines commenced operations (1934), when Gianni Versace was murdered outside his home in Miami, Florida (1997),  when Rembrandt (1606), Linda Ronstadt (1946), Arianna Huffington (1950) and Forest Whitaker (1961) were born, and when Anton Chekhov died (1904). So get secular, get couture, go online, and go out and get some of this packed schedule:

Britney Spears To Eat for Da Parish

We think of Britney Spears' hometown everytime we take a swig from a bottle of Kentwood Springs water (go for the sports cap), but how often does she think about us? Well, as of today, the answer is at least once. Among her many important roles in the world, Spears added one to her long list today: charity ambassador to the St. Bernard Project. Britney's efforts for the non-profit, which builds home for locals in St. Bernard Parish and Lower Ninth Ward, will begin next week.
