When I Paint My Masterpiece

Bob Dylan's Paintings at NOMA

On view in the front room of NOMA is Bob Dylan: The New Orleans Series. The ten paintings will be switched out this coming week for ten others until the show closes on July 31. There is a familiar feeling in Dylan’s visual art of his intricately woven narratives. Dylan takes seemingly banal events and locations and, like an alchemist, turns them into a hazy, but meaningful memory.

Today's Events: 7.26.11

June 26, when the United States Post Office Department was established by the Second Continental Congress (1775), when President Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947, creating the CIA, the Department of Defense, the Air Force, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the U.S. National Security Council (1947), when Truman a year later desegregated the U.S. military (1948), Geroge Bernard Shaw (1856), Mick Jagger (1943), Kevin Spacey (1959), and Sandra Bullock’s (1964) birthdays, and Diane Arbus’ last day (1971). Here's what's happening in the now:

Alex McMurray

Hola Nola: A Celebrity Mixtape Series- Vol V

Hola Nola- and hola storytelling, Chazfesting, Alex McMurray, king of the local music grind, and father of keeping his colleagues in (and around) the Jazz Fest scene. Whether going solo or jumping in with two, three, and four piece bands (hola the Valparaiso Men’s Chorus, hola the Tin Men), Alex has made a name for himself as a man of music and musings, generously sharing words through thought and song.

Hola Nola: XXXI

Hola Nola- and hola the 21st Annual New Orleans Film Festival, presented by the New Orleans Film Society starting with tonight's kickoff gala at the Eiffel Society. There are some super exciting premiers and showings this year, from a James Franco one-two punch (127 Hours and Howl), to Jake Scott's Welcome to the Riley's to Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis sharing the screen (no you are not dreaming) in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.

Hola Nola: Vol. XXI

Hola Nola, and unfortunately, Hola the new oil leak in Barataria Bay, just south of NOLA.
