Easy Rider: The City to Host Community Workshops On Upcoming Bike Share Program

Good news for bikers in the Big Easy. The City of New Orleans is teaming up with Social Bicycles (SoBi) to host community workshops around town to get feedback in anticipation of NOLA's bike share program, launching this fall.

Bike-Fair

It’s National Bike to Work Week. In celebration, the City is taking some serious action to use the cause of cycling. On Wednesday (4.20), New Orleans issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a comprehensive bicycle share system.

Bare as You Dare: World Naked Bike Ride

By Andrew Mullins III

Hordes of nude and half-naked bicyclists will swarm New Orleans’ streets during the World Naked Bicycle Ride on Saturday (6.13). The local event is part of a larger annual worldwide event when cyclists and activists raise awareness about environmental issues, alternative transportation, and bike safety.

Bike Easy ED Dan Favre Talks Lanes, Cars, & Bikelash

Dan Favre can’t find time to catch his breath since Bike Easy hired him as their new Executive Director. In his first month, Favre and Bike Easy kicked off their membership drive, oversaw a waterlogged Bike To Work Week, and continued their advocacy work with programs such as the Safe Routes To School program.

Today in NOLA: 4.09.15

French Quarter Fest starts today. Later in the evening, Tricia Boutte plays after hours at the Ogden and there is a social bike ride. If you’re going to stay in and make groceries, be sure to stop by the farmers’ market. On this day in 1864, the Battle of Pleasant Hill led to a Union victory in Louisiana. Now, more to do this Thursday.

RUBARB Looks For A Piece of the Pie

The DIY spirit that powered much of downtown New Orleans through the recovery seems to be replaced with realtors worried about APR these days. Yet, some elements of the communal spirit remain. Contrary to their name, there is no rust on Rusted Up Beyond All Recognition Bikes (RUBARB.) Friday (3.27), they are hosting a fundraiser.

World Naked Bike Ride, NOLA in Photos

On Saturday, June 15 the annaul World Naked Bike Ride cruised through downtown in the buff. NoDef's Brandon Robert was there to capture the sights. Of course, as this was a naked bike ride, many of the photos are explicit, and inapropriate for work or youth.

Tulane Wave Patrol To Bait Bikes

Bike thieves beware--Tulane’s campus is beefing up their cycle security with a new technological terror. TUPD is “baiting" random bikes, giving petty criminals less incentive to use the campus as their playground. The new GPS tracking system will monitor certain unmarked cycles, and there's plenty of warning about the new devices.

Biker's Dozen: 'Nite Rider' Accessories Among NOPD's New Two-Wheeled Acquisitions

In a bid to "double-team"criminals, NOPD tripled their total of patrol bicycles this week. Proving once again the cops love the 80s, the force welcomed a dozen donated bikes today that were proudly heralded as having "Nite Rider" features. The siren and headlight equipped bikes, worth $975 dollars apiece, were given to the strapped-for-cash NOPD 8th District, which includes the French Quarter, CBD and Marigny Triangle. The bikes will allow officers to regularly interact with residents, which is an advantage over having officers only patrolling the streets in their cars, NOPD said.

Cyclists Celebrate!

Good news for bikers in the big easy. First, the Where Ya Rack program has managed to navigate the indisputably daunting corridors of power & bureaucracy in our fair city; approval has been granted to build bike racks throughout NOLA. With all due respect to Vittoria de Sica's classic, (not to mention PeeWee) we have our own bike thief, and the, uh, tireless folks at the NOPD have released a sketch.
