Today in NOLA 2.28.17 (Mardi Gras)

Well folks, we made it. Happy Mardi Gras! The city is waking up early, with parades and parties beginning at sunrise. Following the krewe marches and the Bourbon Street Awards, some NOLA all-stars will play on Frenchmen. Looking for good food? Hit up Northside Skull & Bone Gang's breakfast and then grab lunch at Bar Redux's annual Fat Tuesday fry. On this day in 1985, then Governor Edwin Edwards was indicted by a federal grand jury on 51 counts of racketeering. Now, more Mardi Gras happenings.

'Hurricane Bianca' Makes Landfall

New Orleans has no shortage of drag royalty, but Bianca Del Rio (nee Roy Haylock) is the queen of queens, the Daenerys  Targaryen of the NOLA scene. Del Rio made a national name for herself after wining Season 6 winner of “Rupaul's Drag Race.” On Friday (6.03), she is releasing a feature film, “Hurricane Bianca.”

Today in NOLA: 12.13.14

Saturday is finally here. Tonight Astral Project performs with New Orleans jazz greats at Snug Harbor. Fleur de Tease spices things up at One Eyed Jacks. Now uber famous from success in Rupaul's Drag Race, Biance Del Rio will be dazzling crowds with costumes and theatrical acts at the House of Blues. Local regulars Rebirth Brass Band make some noise at d.b.a. The Bonnet Carre Spillway was dedicated on this day in 1935. Now, more info on these amazing Saturday night shows.
