Today in NOLA: 9.12.14

Two new plays open in New Orleans tonight: Sam Shepard’s family drama A Lie of the Mind comes to Midcity Theatre, and local writer Michael Allen Zell’s dark comedy Thin Walls premieres at the Shadowbox. Maple Street Book Shop celebrates fifty years of fighting the stupids with a golden anniversary soirée. Plus, a songwriter featured on NBC’s The Voice plays on Frenchmen. From Press Street's Room 220

The Bayou St. John outpost of the Maple Street Bookstore empire (3141 Ponce de Leon) will host local writers Adrian Van Young and Michael Jeffrey Lee for readings at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. Both authors have released well-received shorty story collections in the relatively near past, but they will present current work. Lee’s Something in My Eye and Van Young’s The Man Who Noticed Everything will be on hand for purchase and signatures.
