"Don't Call Me Resilient"


For two weeks, New Orleans has been inundated with coverage of the Katrina/Federal Flood. And more than a few locals are sick of it. In particular, the City’s official slogan “resilient” is drawing fire. After a week of social media backlash, viral signs are now popping up to critique the catchphrase.

Today, City Council candidates get their message out at a forum, a doc aout David Duke screens at Louisiana Humanities Center, lo-fi indie rock band The War On Drugs play at One Eyed Jack?s, and on the opposite end of the musical spectrum gangsta rap group Slaughterhouse perform at the House of Blues. This day in history Gen. Andrew Jackson declared martial law over for the end of the war of 1812 (1815), and legendary louisiana musicians Lightnin? Slim 1913), and trumpeter Terence Blanchard (1962) were born and influential New Orleans jazz teacher and practitioner Danny Barker died (1994).
