Offshore Auction Sparks Sunpie's Onshore Protest

On Wednesday (8.19), the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is set to auction off a fresh set of offshore oil and gas drilling leases. However, zydeco master and former park ranger Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes and a group of conservationists are calling on the agency to halt the auction until a parks program is renewed.

Drunk 1 and Drunk 2 will soon have another place to dance. Club Oz (800 Bourbon Street), the iconic French Quarter gay bar, is about to have a new owner, but said proprietor is not new to Quarter rats. Kishore "Mike" Motwani won a live auction in held by Judge Elizabeth Magner in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Louisiana. Motwani is a polarizing figure known for his empire of t-shirt shops downtown.

Ebony and ivory are capable of far more than perfect harmony. With a little help from the remaining Beatles, the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build Program raised $98,888 by auctioning off a hand painted piano signed by Sir Paul and Ringo.

City Puts 3000 Properties on Auction Block

As the clock struck noon today (3.6,) the City put approximately 3,000 adjudicated, or blighted, properties up for auction. Needless to say, blight has been an ongoing problem for the City of New Orleans since many property owners abandoned their homes after Katrina.
