Tonight, Poolside Calypso at the Country Club in the Bywater! All over the city, there's live music, theater, and more happening this Friday. On this date in Louisiana’s Civil War history, Union troops captured Baton Rouge. Now, more ways to kick off your weekend.

NOLA New Years Eve 12.31.12

Before you start making your new year’s resolutions, drink up and enjoy all of the best music the city has to offer. From Oak to St. Claude, take the party to the streets and dance with Rebirth, Papa Grows Funk, the Soul Rebels, and more. A young Louis Armstrong was arrested on January 1, 1912, for firing a celebratory shot from a pistol into the air at the corner of Perdido and Rampart. Now, it’s time to figure out how you’ll spend the first hours of 2013.

Today in New Orleans 12.13.12

Get cozy this cold Thursday night with crafts on St. Claude, Shakespeare at NOMA, DJ Shadow at the Republic, and more. On December 13, 1935, the Bonnet Carre Spillway was dedicated. Click for more on what to do tonight in the Crescent City.

Today in New Orleans: 8.13.12

On August 13, 1947, Louis Armstrong and his All Stars Band officially debuted in Los Angeles, at Billy Berg’s Night Club. Tonight in the Louisiana music scene, Kermit Ruffins, Papa Grows Funk, and Charmaine Neville are populating their usual venues. Early in the evening, acclaimed author Kiini Ibura Salaam will be uptown at Octavia Books, reading passages from and signing her new collection, Ancient Ancient. Met-heads can check out Abigail Williams at the Hi-Ho with some Monday night red beans, and the Allways will be hosting The Salt Wives, a Klezmer trio.
